887 – Australia Skilled Regional visa (Permanent)
The Australia Skilled Regional (Permanent) subclass 887 visa is for applicants who already hold a Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa.
If you have lived and worked in a regional area of Australia and have held a qualifying visa, you may be eligible to apply for this permanent residence visa.
Holders of the following visas will be considered:
- Skilled Regional visa (subclass 489)
- Skilled Independent Regional visa (subclass 495)
- Skilled Designated Area Sponsored visa (subclass 496)
- Skilled Regional Sponsored visa (subclass 475 or 487), or
- Bridging visa A or Bridging visa B after applying for a subclass 495, 487 or 489 visa

Introduction
If you hold a qualifying visa, and you have lived in a specified regional area of Australia for at least 2 years, and have worked there for at least 1 year you may be eligible for this visa.
What a Skilled Regional (Permanent) visa lets you do
If you hold this visa you (including all additional visa applicants) will have permanent residence in Australia.
Once you hold this visa, you and all included applicants are entitled to:
- live in Australia permanently
- enrol into any educational institute in Australia
- make use of Medicare – Australia’s national health scheme
- apply for citizenship once you meet the citizenship criteria
- travel in and out of Australia for 5 years from the day the visa is granted
- sponsor eligible family relatives
Visa Applicants
Who can apply for a Skilled Regional (Permanent) visa?
To qualify for this visa you must be resident in Australia and hold one of the following:
- Skilled Regional visa (subclass 489)
- Skilled Independent Regional visa (subclass 495)
- Skilled Designated Area Sponsored visa (subclass 496)
- Skilled Regional Sponsored visa (subclass 475 or 487), or
- Bridging visa A or Bridging visa B after applying for a subclass 495, 487 or 489 visa
You must have lived in a regional area of Australia for a minimum of two years. During that period, you must also have worked in a regional area of Australia for a minimum of 1 year.
Health requirements
You must meet the health requirements for this visa. If you have already undergone a health assessment for one of the listed provisional visas, you will not be required to undergo another health examination.
Character requirements
Every visa applicant is required to meet the character requirements set out by the Department of Home Affairs before entering Australia.
Character requirements for temporary and permanent migration
To be considered good of character, you will be asked to provide police clearance certificates for every country that you have lived in for 12 months or more in the last 10 years since turning 16 years of age.

The only requirement is that you and any additional secondary applicants conform to all Australian laws – failure to do so may have repercussions on your ability to remain in Australia. You may live and work in any part of Australia, and you may engage in any type of employment.
