Skilled migration visa applications will be subject to a new points test which will take effect from 1 July 2011. The aim of the changes is to strike a greater balance between all the different factors that are considered when assessing a skilled migration visa application.
It is hoped that by emphasising high level qualifications, better English language levels and extensive skilled work experience, the new points test will bring the best and brightest skilled migrants to Australia.
Some aspects of the new system will be well received however for some these changes may have a negative impact and essentially some applicants may be ineligible to apply under the new points test.
The changes will only apply to the following visas:
- Subclass 175 Skilled Independent
- Subclass 176 Skilled Sponsored
- Subclass 475 Skilled – Regional Sponsored
- Subclass 487 Skilled Regional Sponsored
- Subclass 885 Skilled Independent
- Subclass 886 Skilled Sponsored
Apply today if you qualify for a skilled visa! To ensure your application is processed through the current system, visa applicants must receive a positive trade or skills assessment and lodge a visa application with the Department of Immigration and Citizenship before 30 June 2011.
Remember – many trade and skills assessment applications take time to process, in some cases, it may take between 3 to 6 months. Applicants are encouraged to get the ball rolling now if they currently qualify.
